Pastor's Corner: 10 March, 2008

Hope is in the air... They say it will be in the high 50's tomorrow. It feels like it has been a long enough winter. I imagine it has been just as long and cold as any other winter, but for whatever reason, I've had enough. I'm ready to open the windows and smell fresh air, suck all the radiator heat out of my little apartment and open the place up! I am feeling the same way about Lent. It has been a real season of Lent for me. Repent - repeat, repent-repeat. I have stubbed my toes, more than once, on my stumbling blocks of sin. I am feeling it. I am ready for the brilliant and glorious light of the resurrection to be so fantastic and blinding that I am compelled to close my eyes, open my arms wide and inhale. Bring it on, I say!

But, before all that I know that we will follow Jesus to that big old table full of nourishing food and authentic community; Maundy Thursday. Before I can click my heels together in the sunshine, I have to sit down with my friends and those I struggle to be friends with, and reconcile with them, in the Body of Christ. I need to be reminded that the resurrection is not all about me. Who knew? There is community in the Body of Christ, whether we like it or not.

Then there's Good Friday. Ugh. We go deeper and deeper into the dark cave. But, then WE Know - because we are Easter People - we KNOW that the Son will rise. It is coming. We know it, but ...wait for it, wait for it....

peace on your head,
pastor rachel
